Description
The “edgecase open system - eos” describes a possible verification procedure for the functional integrity of electrical distribution boards in the event of fire based on calculations for active ventilation.
The “eos” system consists of standardized edgecase ewg90 (wall-mounted enclosures) and edgecase esg90 (floor-standing enclosures) fire protection enclosures with general building authority approval (ABZ) / general type approval (ABG) - Z-86.1-101, in which active ventilation is maintained for up to 90 minutes (ETK) in the event of a fire. For this purpose, independent fire-resistant ventilation ducts (L90 / EI90, Promat) are connected to the supply and exhaust air openings of the fire protection enclosures and operated in a defined manner (principle of effective ventilation of electrical operating rooms whose ventilation ducts run through other rooms).
This means that heat and humidity are constantly dissipated during a fire.
In cooperation with the materials testing institute in Stuttgart, a complex fire test over 100 minutes (ETK, >1000°C) was carried out to record specified room temperature and humidity values, which are common ambient conditions for electrical components, on several levels within the fire protection enclosure edgecase in conjunction with the required air volume flow during a fire.
The fire protection enclosures were also constructed and tested as a kit. Independent fire-resistant ventilation ducts (L90 / EI90, Promat) were connected to the enclosures in a defined manner and operated. An additional ventilation duct (L90 / EI90, Promat) was tested to simulate longer connection distances within a room.
The worst measured values (worst case) were then used as base data for a standardized calculation method for active ventilation.
In cooperation with ML Sachverständigen Gesellschaft mbH (Lippe, Möller), an application report with instructions and a calculation form for the specialist planner and installer was drawn up for the practical application of a verification procedure for the functional integrity of electrical distribution boards in the event of fire.
Applications
Functional integrity of electrical distribution boards in the event of fire for up to 90 minutes with or without batteries for safety-related systems that are not standardized, i.e. generally always require free, individual equipping of the electrical installations in relation to the respective project, e.g. for
-
Voice alarm systems (ELA)
-
Power supply systems (SV)
-
Mechanical smoke extraction systems (MRA)
-
Pressurized ventilation systems (RDA)
-
BOS radio systems
While in the case of electrical distribution boards for safety systems with a standardized configuration of the electrical installations, it makes economic sense to prove the functional integrity in the event of a fire by means of a fire type test, the “edgecase open system- eos” is an economically viable solution for a project-related free individual configuration of the electrical installations.
